Top tips for Sewing Buttonholes.
Measure twice! When you are marking your garment before you sew the buttonholes, double check your measurements and take a look to make sure they are all lined up neatly.
Use a buttonhole opening tool, like a small chisel, on a protective mat, to cut clean holes every time.
If the fabric in the buttonhole is fraying, use some fray check to stop it from looking messy.
Buttonholes should ‘point’ in the direction of most pull at points of resistance. i.e. horizontal on trouser flies.
Use a top stitching thread or contrast colour to make a feature of your buttonholes.
Test out your buttonhole on scrap fabrics first. Layer them up to the same thickness as your finished garment for a true test.
