The Dressmakers Ball
The Dressmakers ball is back for the fifth year, in a brand new venue! This decadent evening will include a drinks reception, two course sit down meal, live band, a catwalk show (which you can be a part of!) and the opportunity to sew yourself a glorious gown, garment or accessory.
The idea of Dressmakers Ball came about after we were pondering the lack of opportunity to sew and wear a ball gown or formal wear. We decided to throw a party and sew something special to wear, and we thought everyone should be invited!
So, don your finery and join us at the Grand Hotel, Leicester, for a spectacular evening of creativity, heritage and glamour!
Jeans Making Course
Make your dream jeans that fit you perfectly with our in depth Jeans Making workshop with Sarah Laws. Take on the challenge in safe hands.
For this workshop you will learn how to measure yourself professionally, create a toile, fit and adjust that toile, and produce your own made-to-measure custom jeans. You'll never have to hunt in through high street stores again!
You have the choice between the Closet Core Ginger or Morgan Jeans for sizes 0-20, or Ames jeans by Cashmerette for sizes 12-32. The Ginger and Ames are a more skinny fit with tapered or straight leg variations. The Morgan jeans are a looser, boyfriend style fit.
This workshop is not suitable for beginners to dressmaking or sewing.

Crafty Sewing Camp
Get ready for Crafty Sewing Camp 2024!
We are planning a super exciting sewing event for 2024 and we'd love you to join us!
The Crafty Sewing Camp is a three-day event where guests will get the opportunity to re-live the classic school camp experience while immersing themselves in a friendly, supportive social and learning experience. The main focus will be on sewing, with free-sewing time throughout the weekend in well-equipped sewing rooms. There will also be a variety of short masterclasses and workshops to attend, bookable after purchasing your camp ticket. The event is organised by Freya of Crafty Sew and So and Sarah of My Handmade Wardrobe.

Bodice Fitting Workshop
Learning to make your own patterns is the ideal next step for those with some experience of dressmaking to up-skill and unleash your creativity.
On this one-day masterclass, you will learn how to amend a standard bodice block to fit your own personal measurements and create a perfectly fitting bodice block. We will cover the magical art of dart manipulation to move suppression around the bodice to create any design you can imagine!

Introduction to Making Dressmaking Patterns
Explore the fundamentals of pattern making with My Handmade Wardrobe Patterns designer Sarah Laws at the NEC Birmingham Sewing for Pleasure show!
In this full day masterclass, you’ll learn how to manipulate darts to create a vast range of different design details. Starting with a half scale block you will experiment with different ways to move shaping around the bodice including pivoting and moving darts, creating gathers, pleats and contoured style-lines. In the afternoon you will move on to create a pattern and toile for your own unique bodice design in full scale using a pre-made bodice block.
